The Acid Lab is one of the most lucrative businesses you can run in GTA Online, the multiplayer mode of GTA 5. Housed in the back of a heavily modified Brickade 6x6 truck, this mobile narcotics lab allows you to manufacture and supply product for serious profits. Introduced in the Los Santos Drug Wars update, the Acid Lab is tied to the Fooliganz crew and requires players to complete a specific set of missions before it becomes operational.
For newcomers or those jumping in with GTA 5 modded accounts, unlocking the Acid Lab is one of the fastest ways to start building a serious income stream in Los Santos. Even if you’re starting from scratch, the missions and setup process make it accessible while still rewarding experienced players with high profits.
Unlocking the Acid Lab in GTA 5
To gain access to the Acid Lab, you’ll first need to complete the First Dose mission chain for Dax, which is part of the Los Santos Drug Wars update. There are six missions in total:
1. Welcome to the Troupe
2. Designated Driver
3. Fatal Incursion
4. Uncontrolled Substance
5. Make War Not Love
6. Off the Rails
The final mission, Off the Rails, has you steal the Brickade 6x6 and deliver it to the Fooliganz’ base of operations, The Freakshop. Once the truck is secured, you’ll unlock a final freeroam mission. In this step, you’ll raid a warehouse to steal lab equipment. Use the forklift to load it onto a Flatbed truck, fight off incoming enemies, and deliver the gear safely back to The Freakshop.
With the Brickade secured and the equipment delivered, you’re ready to turn this beast into a fully functioning Acid Lab.
Setting Up the Acid Lab
Once everything is in place, talk to Mutt at The Freakshop. He’ll offer to install the necessary lab equipment in the Brickade for a fee of $750,000 GTA dollars. If you’re a GTA+ subscriber, this installation is free.
When the setup is complete, you’ll gain access not only to the Acid Lab itself but also to the Manchez Scout C motorbike, which is used for delivery missions.
Running the Business
The Acid Lab works similarly to other businesses in GTA Online, but it operates independently of your Motorcycle Club businesses. This means you can run both at the same time for maximum profit.
You can resupply the lab by speaking to Mutt or calling him from your contacts. Supplies cost $60,000 each, and it normally takes three resupplies to fill the lab completely. Once full, your stock can be sold for $237,500.
However, investing in the equipment upgrade is highly recommended. For $250,000, this upgrade boosts your max sale value to $335,200, meaning it pays for itself very quickly. Note that to unlock this upgrade, you must first complete 10 Fooligan Jobs for Dax. After that, you can buy the upgrade and start enjoying the bigger payouts.
You’ll also receive the usual high-demand bonus for selling in public lobbies, though this comes with the added risk of rival players interfering with your deliveries.
Why the Acid Lab is Worth It
The Acid Lab is one of the best businesses to own in GTA 5. Unlike some older businesses, it’s relatively easy to manage, doesn’t require huge overhead costs, and provides strong profit margins — especially with the equipment upgrade. The mobility of the Brickade 6x6 also adds a layer of versatility, letting you operate while on the move.
Final Thoughts
The Acid Lab is a must-have for anyone serious about making money in GTA 5. It’s straightforward to unlock, profitable to run, and flexible enough to fit into your existing business empire without much hassle. While the upfront setup and resupply costs may seem steep, the return on investment is quick, especially with the Fooligan Jobs–locked equipment upgrade.
If you’re looking for a business that combines strong profits with unique gameplay, the Acid Lab stands out as one of the smartest investments you can make in Los Santos.
